Trajan Decius 249-251 A.D., AR Antoninianus, 22mm. Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust facing right. Reverse: Trajan Decius on horseback facing left holding spear, raising right hand. Obverse grades slightly better than reverse although both have significant detail! What caught my eye when I bought this coin was that the dies used to strike both sides were rather good. All to often these antoniniani have superb obverses and mushy reverses. Nice coin! Price: $60

Trajan Decius 249-251 A.D., AR Antoninianus, 21mm.
Obverse: Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust facing right, IMP C M Q TRAIANVS DECIVS AVG

Reverse: VIRTVS AVG Virtus standing right holding spear and leaning on shield.
320mm. This is a superb coin of Volusian. To give you an idea of the nice strike and excellent detail, you can see detail on Virtus calf and his boots on the reverse. Super nice!! The coin has quite dark toning towards the edges in what I believe is original toning. There even appears to be lusterous areas towards the center. Clean this if you must but overall a great coin with lots of eye appeal. Price: $75

Roman Provincial, Valerian, 253-260 A.D.

From Cilicia, Adana, attributed by the amazing Rob Golan of Coins of Antiquity, as SNG Von Aulock 5439. Sestertius siezed coin. 19.2 grams. Excellent planchet and color. Very attractive! Price: $80 SOLD

Reverse: RESTITVT ORIENTIS Asia in Armenian tiara presents wreath to emperor.

RIC 287, 20.8 mm. The coin is has a dark toning but from the surfaces and color I believe it has a high silver content. Interesting coin. Price: $70

Rather unusual portrait, nice old toning, tons of eye appeal. Price: $75

Gallienus 253-268 A.D., antoninianus, 23mm. Radiate draped and cuirassed bust. Reverse: VICTORIA AET Victory standing left holding wreath and palm. Listed as Sear 2997. Really a sharp and attractive coin. The strike is great, the planchet is huge, the design is relatively well centered. There is even about 90% silvering left but on the scan it came up grainy. The silver is not smooth and complete and hence the image effects. Still, a very very nice coin. Price: $40.

Salonina 268 A.D., antoninianus, 22mm.
Obverse: Diademed and draped bust right, resting on crescent.
Reverse: Fecunditas standing left holding cornucopia, child at her feet.

Severina wife of Aurelian, AE denarius, 19mm.
Obverse: SEVERINA AVG bust right
Reverse: VENVS FELIX Venus standing left, holding figure and scepter.

RIC 6, 2.5 grams. Aurelian tried to introduce denominations in keeping with the old denarius but the coin issue was small and rather short lived. This is a rather tough denomation/coin of Severina to find and this particular coin has fairly nice detail (VF) but the silver is flaked off to the point where their is maybe 20% silver left so the remaining patchwork is not pleasing to the eye. Tough coin. Price: $75.

Tacitus. 275-276 A.D.
Obverse: IMP.C.M.CL.TACITVS AVG. radiate draped bust right.
Reverse: CLEMENTIA TEMP Jupiter presenting globe to Tacitus

Another great coin of Tacitus although there is some micro porosity in a few places on this coin. However, when you look for detail, you can make out the cape of Tacitus on the reverse, what appears to be boots on the emperor, and more. Price: $55

Tacitus. 275-276 A.D. Obv: IMP.C.M.CL.TACITVS P.AVG. radiate draped bust right.

Obverse: VIRTVS PROBVS AVG radiate and cuirassed bust left, holding spear and shield

Price: $25

Price: $75 RESERVED.

Probus 276-282 A.D.,
Obverse: IMP C M AVR PROBVS PF AVG Radiate bust left wearing imperial mantle and holding eagle tipped scepter. Reverse: SOLI INVICTO quadriga facing. The splotchy outer silvering makes the coin a beast to scan. It is definitely better than the scan! Price: $20.

Carus 282-283 A.D. Antoninianus, Obv: IMP C M AVR CARVS PF AVG radiate draped bust right.

Rev: PAX AVGG Pax standing left
3.7 grams, 24mm. Lots of silvering left on the coin. The coin has the ever so slightest bend to it. Price: $35 SOLD

Obverse: MAGN VRBICA AVG diademed and draped bust right resting on crescent
Reverse: VENVS VICTRIX Venus standing left holding helmet and scepter.

Obverse: Diocletian's laureate bust facing right within Greek legend. IMP DIOCLETIANVS AVG laureate and draped bust right

Reverse: Zeus seated left (?) (I need to dig out Milne on Alexandrian coinage) Year 8.

Very nice coin as these are usually very dumpy, worn, and tired. The edges are definitely ragged but the entire design is contained. Nice eye appeal. 20mm. Price: $40

Diocletian 284-305 A.D AE antoninianus
Obverse: Diocletian's 3/4 laureate bust facing right with imperial robes. IMPD N DIOCLETIANVS FELICISSIMO SEN AVG

Obverse: D.N.CONSTANTIVS P.F.AVG. Diademed and draped bust right.

Rev: FEL TEMP REPARATIO Legionary spearing fallen barbarian horseman.
There is an amazing amount of detail on the reverse of this coin. You can even see the mane of the fallen horse and there are still visible the "dots or bumps" used to indicate some sort of footwear on the legionary. The obverse has satiny smooth surfaces and an amazing clear brockage of some sort where TIVS is overstruck in Constantius hair. Wonderful coin, better than the scan!! S-4010 Price: $50.
